"In the atmosphere of Tzar's Stronghold"
This construction, build at the end of the 19th century to defend the western borders of the Russian empire, and not defeated during either of the world wars, the Tsar’s Stronghold in Osowiec was entered in the register of monuments in 1998. Thanks to the endeavours of the Osowiec Fortification Association it was adapted for tourism: the Museum of the Osowiec Stronghold and the history-and-nature route were established. Local guides, who are enthusiasts of the fortification, will be happy to take you for a two-hour tour through history and will take you to “the death tunnel” and “the scream chamber”. If you are lucky you will meet the Black Lady and other ghosts dweling in the Stronghold.
