"European White Stork Village"
Visiting the Tykocin area you must also pay a visit to Pentowo, a settlement located in a picturesque site on the Narew backwaters, which in 2001 was granted the name of European White Stork Village. The birds took a particular liking to the old Polish-style mansion, almost one hundred years old, belonging to the Toczydłowski family, and its surroundings. They set up their nests – over twenty of them – in almost every possible place: on the roofs of the farm buildings, on posts, trees and even on the thatched roof of the watchtower, erected for the purpose of watching the lives of the storks. The “Stork Gallery” located in an old woodshed sells entrance tickets, stork souvenirs, postcards and books on nature. An additional attraction of the place is the open-air classical music concerts usually played on every last Saturday of the month from May to October.
